This weeks interview features Abby from Mavora. Abby is located in Reno, Nevada.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a mom for 2 and I’m taking on paying the bills with my creative talents while my husband goes for his Pharmacy Degree. I design wedding invitations and I also work for my church in the communications and design realm. I LOVE volleyball and play indoors or outdoors any chance I get. In fact I currently have a finger with a torn ligament for that very reason. My faith in God is very important to me and I live day by day in His good grace. He has taught me that it is really all about love.
What special things do you create for weddings?
I make invitations, save the dates, wedding day stationery, and magnets.
Who or what sparked your interest in making wedding-related items?
I originally started in photography but experimenting with photoshop and looking at items on Etsy I fell in love with invitations and weddings are just the best! I’m a Romantic.
What is a little known fact, or something unique about your work that is interesting?
Almost all of my designs started as a photograph of a place I’ve loved. Everything is completely original and special because of it!

If you are married, what’s the one thing you wish you had for your wedding that you didn’t?
A better hair cut and bridesmaids. We had more of a “Formal Elopement” on a mountain but I missed my closest gal pals and although my dress was AWESOME my hair was not right!
What is your favorite wedding song?
“Marry Me” by Train
“Waste Another Day” by Brooke Fraser
What trends do you see happening in your specialty at the moment?
Brides are eating up the vintage themes but the thing I LOVE about weddings is you can do whatever you want! Decorating the event is like decorating your home. Go bright, go natural, go funky, go geeky – it can all be romantic and beautiful! I want brides to feel that freedom!
What is your favorite part of the wedding journey?
I’m not going to lie and say the invitations! It’s all about the love and it should be found throughout the wedding journey. A fancy party and a celebration with friends is very lovely but it only lasts a few days…the real adoring devotion between a man and a woman lasts and lasts and can give you beautiful children too. (I wasn’t all about the children when I got married but oh man do I love mine now!)
What advice can you share for all the brides getting married this year?
Don’t wait until the last minute, you’ll drive yourself insane! Control the big things like invites, location, and food early and hand off any of the small things you can. Controlling everything is a sure fire way to a lot of stress and stress pushes love right out of your heart – there’s just not that much room in there!
What is your perfect honeymoon spot?
I would go South Pacific all the way! I’ve been to Samoa and New Zealand but I’d love to do Fiji!
If you could pick anyone famous that would purchase your items for their wedding, who would they be?
I haven’t thought about it but now that you’ve asked I’d do invites for Taylor Swift anytime!
If you could choose 1 item from your shop that you wish every bride could have, what would it be?
My save the date magnets. It’s a fun gift and a great way to have a wedding website address always available for your guests. They are also a great way to express your style and get friends excited about the event!
What are some of your favorite shops on Etsy, wedding or otherwise?
Paperhill, UrbanLegend, and ChloeANDMaddie.
